Dr Bethan James ESA Project Scientist Space Telescope Science Institute
I am an astronomer who specializes in extragalactic observational astrophysics. I currently work as the ESA Project Scientist for the Roman Space Telescope. I am based at the Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI), where I lead the Metals In Galaxies research group.
As an expert in UV+optical+IR spectroscopic studies of low-metallicity star-forming galaxies, I focus on quantifying metals throughout the Universe with the aim of understanding metal-dependent processes that affect galaxy formation and evolution.
I use a range of observational techniques within my research and specialize in spatially-resolved optical and UV spectroscopy.
At STScI was previously an ESA/AURA Astronomer and held the roles of Deputy Manager of the JWST-NIRSpec team, and Deputy Manager of the HST-COS team.
